Forest, Wood and Health

This course is an introduction to environmental psychology, specifically, the beneficial health effects of forests, trees, and wood products on the individual.
Environmental psychology is a field of study that researches the interplay between humans and their environment and the understanding of how we can optimize our environment  to maximize our physical health and psychological wellbeing.

The first part of this course discusses the mind-body connection and the physiological and biological processes between trees and the human organism.
In the second part, we will apply this knowledge in form of hands-on exercises and practical applications in the field of architecture, interior design, and woodworking.

Course goals: By the end of this course, engaged participants will have greater understanding of:
1) How our physical health and our psychological wellbeing are intricately connected.
2) How mindfulness in the forest maximizes the health benefits of being in the forest.
4) How to reduce of environmental stressors to create healthy living and work spaces.
3) How to optimize the use of wood products in our living spaces to promote health.
